The various components of the GEON system are shown in the following diagram. You may click on each module to obtain more information about it.
GEON software applications are made available to end users via portlets that are deployed within the framework of the GEON Portal. Portlets are software modules that implement a defined set of capabilities, operating within the software framework and context of the overall portal infrastructure. A portlet provides a set of user interfaces to a “server-side” implementation which implements the corresponding functionality and capabilities.
A number of the portlets in the GEON Portal are generic in nature, i.e. they implement functionality that is useful for any data portal regardless of application domain. These are referred to as “Core” portlets. Other portlets are specific to the Earth Sciences and referred to here as “Application Specific” portlets.
Login: allows users to obtain portal accounts and login in to the portal

Register: allows users to register a variety of resources with the GEON system.

Search: allows users to search the GEON catalog for resources. Has a Basic Search and Advanced Search functionality.

myWorkbench: provides a private workspace for storing data, saving outputs of computations, etc.
PaleoIntegration (PIP): provides integrated access to a set of paleontological, paleogeographic, and paleobiologic databases and tools. See http://portal.geongrid.org/pip for more information.
LiDAR (GLW): provides online access to LiDAR point cloud data and the ability generate derived products (DEMs). See http://portal.geongrid.org/lidar for more information.
SYNSEIS: provides online access to a Synthetic Seismogram generation application. See http://portal.geongrid.org/synseis for more information.
Gravity: provides online access to a national-scale gravity database compilation. Go to the Tools tab in the Portal and click on the Gravity sub-tab.
Magnetics: provides online access to a national-scale magnetic database compilation. Go to the Tools tab in the Portal and click on the Magnetics sub-tab.
