GEON Advisory Board

GEON has formed an Advisory Board comprised of leaders in the geoscience and IT Fields to follow the progress of the project and provide feedback regarding its effectiveness, impact, and direction. The Board will also write two formal reports to NSF evaluating the overall success of GEON, mid-way through the remaining 3 years of the project (April 2006) and at the end of the project (September 2007). Malcolm Atkinson is the Director of the National e-Science Centre (NeSC), as well as a Professor in the Department of Computing Science, University of Glagsow and also in the Division of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. He has held positions at seven universities: Glasgow, Pennsylvania, Edinburgh, UEA, Cambridge, Rangoon and Lancaster; and at two private companies: Sun Microsystems (at SunLabs in California) and O2 (an Object- Oriented DB company in Versailles).

 

 

Malcolm Atkinson is the Director of the National e-Science Center (NeSC) and Professor in the Department of Computing Science, University of Glasgow and in the Department of Informatics, University of Edinburgh.
Fran Berman is the Director of the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) and also holds the Endowed Chair in High Performance Computing, Jacobs School of Engineering, both at the University of California, San Diego.

 


Sharon Mosher is Professor of Geological Sciences and William Stamps Farish Chair in the John R. and Katherine G. Jackson
School for Geosciences at the University of Texas, Austin.
David Simpson is President of the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) and currently serves on the National Steering Committee for the USGS Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) and the Board of Directors of the Seismological Society of America.

 

 

Larry Smarr is the Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) and is also the Harry E. Gruber Professor of Computer Science and Information Technologies at the University of California, San Diego.


Mary Lou Zoback is Senior Research Scientist with the USGS Western Earthquake Hazards Team, Menlo Park, CA and also serves on the Council of the National Academy of Sciences.
