Project: BIRN-CC (Biomedical Informatics Research Network Coordinating Center)

Research Goals: The BIRN project precedes GEON by about 2 years. It’s goals are to develop cyberinfrastructure to enable sharing of brain image and other related biomedical data. There are many points of similarity between the two projects. In particular, GEON/SDSC and BIRN are working closely to develop common components for the portal, e.g. same community authentication modules. Furthermore, there are common requirements for data registration and integration, thus, the projects are coordinating in their efforts in semantic integration and mediation.
Chaitan Baru and Phil Papadopoulos are co-Investigators of BIRN-CC project and also members of the BIRN-CC Leadership Team.
