AGENCY PARTNER

USGS

Participation – The USGS is engaged at several levels within the project. GEON is working with USGS to make available commonly used, important national coverage data sets via a USGS GEON node. This activity is in conjunction with the EROS Data Center. There is also joint work in the ontology development area, in particular with the National Geologic Map Database project. We are also investigating incorporation of software like GEODE, developed by USGS, into the GEON portal. There are on-going collaborations between USGS and GEON geosciences researchers. For example, Randy Keller (UTEP) is collaborating with USGS in developing the gravity and magnetic map databases. Mary Lou Zobak, senior scientists at USGS, Menlo Park, is a member of the GEON Advisory Board.
