•  Hosted Concept Space meeting at SDSC, September 4-6, to continue collaborative activity to develop a rock classification ontology.

A mailing list, geon-kr@geongrid.org , is now available for distributing information on ontology and data integration issues. ( Krishna Sinha, Boyan Brodaric, and Kai Lin, Bertram Ludaescher)

•  Implemented the PaleoGeography (PGAP) database using mySQL and DB2. Developed an ArcIMS map interface. (Allister Rees, Jane Park, Reza Wahadj, Ashraf Memon).

•  Provided an update on GEON activities to Dr. Margaret Leinen, Associate Director, Geosciences Directorate, NSF, when she visited SDSC, September 5 th . (Chaitan Baru, John Helly, Dogan Seber).

•  Hosted a visit to SDSC by Profs. James Syvitski, U.Colorado and Chris Paola (U. Minnesota), from the Community Sediment Modeling project. (Chaitan Baru, Dogan Seber)

•  Hosted meeting at SDSC with IBM regarding installation and deployment of GMR (Grid Movement and Replication) software, for data replication in GEON Grid. IBM approved use of GMR in the GEON software stack. Software installed on GEON nodes at SDSC. (Chaitan Baru, Karan Bhatia, Sandeep Chandra)

•  Installed GEON node at UTEP. GMR operation tested between SDSC and UTEP by replicating data from Postgres to Oracle, and vice versa, between the two sites. (Sandeep Chandra)

•  Decision made to divide GEON nodes at SDSC into “development”, “pre-production”, and “production” to enable R&D to proceed concurrently with ability to serve “stable” services.

•  Developed an interface to the seismic modeling program from Lawrence Livermore, and integrated it with the simulation code. (Doug Greer and Tim Kaiser)

•  Hosted a visit to SDSC by CUAHSI HIS representatives (David Maidment, UT Austin). GEON has provided a Grid node to be used by CUAHSI. Meetings were held to discuss hosting of hydrology-related datasets on the CUAHSI Grid node; publishing them via ArcIMS; creating metadata services; and, wrapping some ArcHydro models as Web services. (Chaitan Baru, John Helly, Ilya Zaslavsky)

•  Did a major upgrade and facelift of the GEON website. The new website was presented to the group at the GEON PI meeting in El Paso . (Dogan Seber)

•  PI meeting held in El Paso , Texas , September 26-27 th . Was fully attended and very successful. Meeting included presentations by all PI's (and lots of barbeque beef!) Next PI meeting was decided to be held in about six months, in March or April 2004, at VaTech, Blacksburg , Virginia . (ALL)
