GEON held a week-long Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists (CSIG) from August 10-14, 2009 at the University of California, San Diego.  This year’s program featured two tracks:

  1. Overview of the technologies utilized to develop earth science cyberinfrastructure.
  2. Utilization of cyberinfrastructure-based data systems and tools can be used in geoscience education and research.

Forty Two participants took part in this year’s Institute representing academia, private industry, and several agencies.  As in the past, students travelled from beyond the U.S. to attend the CSIG, from countries such as Mexico, Ireland, and New Zealand.  Based on the faculty and participant feedback, both the CSIG and the two track format that was instituted this year were a big success, and it is anticipated that next year’s program will offer similar options.
