Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists 2009

General Information

The week-long Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists (CSIG) will be held from August 10-14, 2009, at the San Diego Supercomputer Center on the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) campus. Sessions will run all day with breaks and meals provided throughout.

A tentative schedule for this year’s CSIG can be accessed on the Program Information page.  This may be revised as final details are worked through, though the general topics to be covered throughout the week will remain consistent.

All participants of CSIG 2009 are expected to bring a laptop computer with a wireless card, to follow-along with the hands-on instruction throughout this course.  Accepted participants will be forwarded a reading list, as well as information and instructions regarding downloading and installing pertinent software, well in advance of the start of the CSIG.

On-campus apartment housing will be provided for CSIG attendees, beginning on Sunday, August 9th and ending Friday, August 14th, at no expense to participants. Attendees choosing CSIG-provided lodging will be asked to share an apartment with (1-2) other attendees.  Although apartments will be shared, roommates will be assigned according to gender and sleeping quarters will be private.
Attendees preferring to stay elsewhere may do so at their personal expense. Local hotel information will be provided to interested, accepted participants.

On-campus meals will be provided to CSIG attendees at a designated campus dining facility throughout the course (beginning with dinner on Sunday, 8/9 through lunch on Friday, 8/14) at no expense to participants.  Information regarding special needs, including meals and accomodations, will be solicited from accepted participants in July.

Attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements and expense to attend the CSIG. Additional local information (ground transportation options, campus apartment check-in details, etc) will be forwarded to accepted participants prior to their arrival for CSIG 2009.
