He joined the University of Oklahoma in September, 1985 and in 1989 co-founded the NSF Science and Technology Center (STC) for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS) and continues to serve as its director. In 2003, Dr. Droegemeier co-founded the NSF Engineering Research Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (CASA) and serves as its deputy director. He also directs the Sasaki Institute, which is a non-profit organization at the University of Oklahoma that fosters the development and application of knowledge, policy, and advanced technology for the mutual benefit of the government, academic and private sectors. In 2004, Dr. Droegemeier was appointed by President George W. Bush to a 6-year term on the National Science Board.

Dr. Droegemeier's research interests lie in thunderstorm dynamics and predictability, variational data assimilation, mesoscale dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, massively parallel computing, and aviation weather. Elected to the UCAR Board of Trustees in 2002 and as its Vice Chairman in 2003, he became Chairman of the Board in 2004. Dr. Droegemeier has authored and co-authored nearly 60 refereed journal articles and over 200 conference publications, and has graduated 27 students and served on the committees of numerous others. He is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society and in 2004 was elected a Councilor. Dr. Droegemeier also serves on the Board of Directors of the Norman Chamber of Commerce and has been a consultant to the National Transportation Safety Board and American Airlines.

Ian Foster
Ian Foster Dr. Ian Foster is Director of the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, Senior Scientist in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne, and the Arthur Holly Compton Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. The co-editor with Carl Kesselman of "The Grid: Blueprint for a New Computing Infrastructure", he is an internationally recognized researcher and leader in the area of Grid computing. Dr. Foster is a founding member of the Globus Alliance, the open source community that develops the Globus Toolkit, the open source software that has emerged as the de facto standard for Grid computing. He is also Chief Open Source Strategist at Univa Corporation, a company he founded with other Globus leaders to foster and promote the adoption of Globus in commercial environments. Foster is a fellow of the British Computer Society and AAAS. His awards include the GII Next Generation Award, the Lovelace Medal, and DSc Honoris Causa from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Linda Gundersen
Linda Gundersen For the last 27 years, Linda C. Gundersen has worked as a geologist and manager with the U.S. Geological Survey. The first half of her career focused on conducting research and directing diverse projects in the fields of geochemistry and ore deposits, ranging from understanding the origin of hard rock uranium deposits to environmental investigations of radon, uranium, and radium in rocks, soils, and water; eventually assessing the geologic radon potential of the United States. This research was conducted in partnership with states, federal agencies, universities, and communities, and received significant grants from the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. In 1995, she took a temporary assignment as Coordinator of the Energy Resources Program and in 1996 became the Coordinator of the Mineral Resources Program. She served on the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Risk Assessment of Exposure to Radon in Drinking Water from 1997-1999. In 1998, she became the Associate Chief Geologist for Operations where she implemented many successful changes in the budgeting and science planning processes. During 2000 she served on a detail in the Director’s Office, working with the Director and Deputy Director to implement a major reorganization of the USGS. She was appointed Chief Scientist for Geology in 2001, supervising the geologic hazard, resource, and landscape programs of the USGS. Recently she served a detail as the Associate Director for Geology. Her academic background includes undergraduate and graduate work in structural geology and geochemistry at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has received the Department of Interior Superior Service and Meritorious Service Awards as well as the Unit of Excellence Award. She has published over 65 papers in the field of geology.

John LaBrecque
John LeBrecque Dr. LaBrecque is lead of NASA’s Earth Surface and Interior (ESI) focus area includes a broad spectrum of research and applications ranging from geodetic science to natural hazards. The ESI satellite observation program includes recently successful satellite missions such as the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, the GRACE and CHAMP gravity missions, and the Oersted and SAC-C geomagnetic satellite missions. NASA’s ESI focus area provides global leadership in operating and maintaining an integrated global geodetic reference and satellite tracking network employing GPS, VLBI and SLR technologies. ESI supports a vibrant program in geodetic research and development which includes leadership in the development of the Southern California Integrated GPS Network, the development of the International GPS Service, the development of the GRACE mission to measure the temporal and spatial variability of gravity, and the development of space-borne GPS remote sensing.

John LaBrecque received his Ph.D. in Geophysics from Columbia University in 1977. John has published over 80 scientific articles in various aspects of marine geophysics, satellite geophysics, and related technology as a senior scientist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory and senior scientist at Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Dr. LaBrecque made notable contributions to magnetic chronology, evolution of ocean basins including the Indo-Atlantic, Weddell Sea, South Atlantic, and Red Sea Basins, development of volcanic passive margins, the study of satellite magnetic anomalies, the development of satellite altimetry derived gravity field, and the first space-borne observation of reflected GPS energy. Dr. LaBrecque served as NASA’s program scientist for Geodyamics and Geopotential Fields from 1993 to 1996 and encouraged the formulation of numerous GPS, geodetic, and geopotential field projects such as the development of the International GPS Service (IGS), Southern California Integrated GPS Network (SCIGN), the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), and the Oersted, CHAMP, and SAC-C missions. Dr. LaBrecque conducted research at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 1996 to 2000 where he participated in the formulation of GPS remote sensing techniques.
