Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists

General Information

WHEN & WHERE
The week-long Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists (CSIG) will be held from August 11-15, 2008, at the Synthesis Center (http://syncenter.org/) in Atkinson Hall on the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) campus. Sessions run all day with breaks and meals provided throughout.

A tentative schedule for this year’s CSIG can be accessed on the Program Information page.  This may be revised as final details are worked through, though the general topics to be covered throughout the week will remain consistent.

REQUIRED MATERIALS
All participants of CSIG 2008 are expected to bring a laptop computer with a wireless card, to follow-along with the hands-on instruction throughout this course.  Any accepted participant unable to do so must inform the meeting coordinator, via email (at summerinstitute@geongrid.org) no later than 1 August, so that appropriate arrangements may be made.

LODGING
On-campus apartment housing will be provided for CSIG attendees at no expense to participants. Attendees choosing CSIG-provided lodging will be asked to share an apartment with (1-2) other attendees.  Although apartments will be shared, roommates will be assigned according to gender and sleeping quarters will be private.
Attendees preferring to stay elsewhere may do so at their personal expense. Local hotel information may be found on the SDSC Local hotel info page.

FOOD
On-campus meals will be provided to CSIG attendees at a designated campus dining facility throughout the course (beginning with dinner on Sunday, 8/10 through lunch on Friday, 8/15) at no expense to participants.  Information regarding special needs, including meals and accomodations, will be solicited from accepted participants in late July.

TRAVEL
Attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements and expense to attend the CSIG. Additional local information (ground transportation options, campus apartment check-in details, etc) will be forwarded to accepted participants prior to their arrival for CSIG 2008.

Any questions regarding CSIG 2008 may be sent to summerinstitute@geongrid.org.
